Post 974 is named in memory of SSgt. Guy E. Shelley Jr., 26,of New Cumberland, PA. SSgt Shelley andeight other airmen were lost in April of 1943 when their B-24D Liberator, named‘Lady Be Good,’ went down about 400 miles south of the Mediterranean in theLibyan Desert. It wasn’t until February1959 that the ‘Lady Be Good’ and some of her crew were found. The search continued through 1960 when allbut one of the bodies was recovered.
‘The Swamp’
The Post was originally located at 200 Old York Road in NewCumberland. As membership grew, wepurchased our current location at 352 Marsh Run Road, also in New Cumberlandand have been here ever since. We have,throughout the years, expanded our organization to include the LadiesAuxiliary, S.A.L., Legion Riders, and a Home Association.
Lovingly referred to as ‘The Swamp”, out Post boasts some ofthe best facilities in this ‘neck of the woods.’
